07.12.2017 First impressions of the auction night

06.12.2017 (Almost) all signs away...

During the last months we worked hard and very concentrated for our 13th Sport Horse Sales, especially during the last weeks and days nobody spared time and hassled to prepare everything for a perfect event. Tents have been set up, floors has been laid, furniture was deployed, lightning installation have been suspended, and everything was decorated and brought into a high gloss. The whole work was worth it: We are still speechless from our amazing auction and the outcome of it. Now, a few days later, there aren’t any marks to see. The auction last week was a great success and more successful than ever before. The whole team around me did a great job. I would like to thank all involved parties- everyone was always motivated, worked with enormous pleasure and made an important contribution to the success! All signs of “our day of the year” are gone and the beloved contemplative Christmas season started. Time flies… but for sure we will live on memory for a long time; with a satisfied and proud feeling.

05.12.2017 Successul show in Aachen

Laura and Hulapalu flying in Aachen

Thursday morning, just one hour after our "after auction party" finished, two lorries left with our lovely our yard ´. Their destination: Aachen. Laura and our Swedish student Ingemar competed at the
the traditional and most important indoor show for young rider takes place in the „Albert Vahle Halle“ on the CHIO Aachen show ground: The “Salut Festival 2017”. The festive decoration of the indoor offers a great atmosphere and the numerous spectators complete the ambience. Young riders from Europe come to Aachen to compete in the challenging classes.
Our 17yo Laura did a great job again: On Thursday she competed in the qualification classes for the “HGW- Bundesnachwuchschampionat”, both 1.30m style classes. Laura rode the wonderful 6yo gelding Hulapalu (auction horse 2016) and finished second in the first class (score 8.5) and third in the final class. With her mare Quanita she was placed twice in 1.40m classes. Also Everybody’s Darling was in super form and showed great rounds in the 1.40m classes. All of Laura’s rounds were perfectly ridden and full of harmony, this is what makes us unbelievable proud.
Also Ingemar showed exceptional rounds: With his superstar Ocen des As the young boy won a 1.30m class and placed fourth in an other qualification. In the big final for the pony rider Ingemar qualified for the jump- off and placed ninth at the end. With Casscara and Captain Sparrow he jumped the junior classes- one of his first 1.40m classes. All rounds were super and we’re looking to the future!

04.12.2017 The auction 2017 was breathtaking

A beautiful stallion: TIGER

Holger Hetzel’s 13th Sport Horse Sales in Goch generated record-breaking bids totalling EUR 4,130,000 for 19 horses. This year’s top bid came from the United Kingdom.
13 is Nations Cup rider and German Vice-Champion Holger Hetzel’s lucky number because his 13th Sport Horse Sales this November at his beautiful yard in Goch generated the highest bid revenue to date. According to the organisers, the average price for the 19 horses in this year’s collection was EUR 217,000.
The top bid was placed in the prestigious surroundings of the fully occupied event hall for a seven year old Czech-born stallion. Auctioneer Volker Raulf's hammer went down at EUR 600,000 for the stallion by top KWPN sire Padinus, and the proud new owner is the Saudi-owned Old Lodge Stud in the United Kingdom. The bay stallion, aptly named Tiger, has already had a very successful youngster tour season and is an interesting prospect both as a competition horse and as a sire. Padinus was sired by Heartbreaker, the number one stallion on the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses’ ranking list and the leading sire in the FN Breeding Index. Tiger's new owners and the Old Lodge Stud can look forward to a successful future with their new stallion.

A happy new owner

The second highest bid was also placed for another stallion. Super Trouper is a six year old Holstein stallion by Catoki out of a Caretino dam that sold for EUR 435,000 to a well-known competition yard in Hessen. Casting, a six year old stallion that was also sired by Catoki went to a famous competition yard in Australia for EUR 350,000 and will soon be setting out on a plane journey to the other side of the world.
Ulli Horrig, who bought Bacardi Feeling, is now the proud owner of “one of the highlights in the collection” and a “series winner for next season”. Horrig had travelled by private plane from the Caribbean island of Antigua to attend the auction in person and he’s delighted to have put in the winning bid for such a talented mare.
Another special purchase was Hanoverian gelding Entertainer who went to Switzerland for EUR 260,000 as a ‘birthday gift’. Congratulations!

Germany’s best comedian magician Christian Glade

Other successful bidders came from Switzerland and the USA, and Ukrainian Aleksandr Onyshenko bought the Mecklenburg grey gelding Feels Like Heaven (6) by Cerousi at auctioneer Volker Raulf’s suggestion. One remarkable fact about this year’s auction is that there was only one telephone bidder who bought a horse. All the other horses were bought by customers attending Holger Hetzel’s auction event. Auctioneer Volker Raulf was especially pleased about that, commenting: “Although the horses are going to new homes around the world, the buyers were here.”
Everyone enjoyed the 13th Sport Horse Sales and the entertaining prelude by Christian Glade, Germany’s best comedian magician, who treated guests to a 10-minute show before the auction. He captivated the audience by transforming a 500 euro note with a name written on it into a 5 euro note, and then retrieving the 500 euro note later on from inside an orange. It’s no surprise that Munster-based Christian has won several awards for his magic act.

It was a great start to an exciting and entertaining evening with the ‘who’s who’ of international show jumping and the Mayor of Goch, Ulrich Knickrehm, who was attending the event for the first time and said he very much enjoyed the evening. Organiser Holger Hetzel is delighted that the event went so well and paid tribute to everyone who helped to make it a success, particularly his committed team who worked tirelessly in the background.

Over the past few weeks riders, sponsors and horse enthusiasts from all over the world have travelled to Goch to check out the auction collection and try out the candidates. • Our 17yo daughter Laura showed impressive performances with her mare Quanita in the challenging CSI3* classes with clears in the 1.40m’s

02.10.2017 Successful year for California Pie

California Pie

Sired by Captain Cooper, California Pie was entrusted to Tobias Thoenes as a green four year old by his owner Sylwia Grau. Tobias gave him a solid grounding with a well-thought-out training programme and qualified him as a five year old for the DKB Bundeschampionat - the German national championships for young horses - where he qualified for and was placed in the final. He also performed very well at the World Championship for young show jumping horses in Lanaken recently, where he won two rosettes. California Pie is an impressive example of a training concept that works because it focuses on bringing on the young horses as individuals. Owner Sylwia Grau calls it ‘awesome!’.

01.10.2017 Season's highlights 2017

  • Holger Hetzel and his team celebrated a number of big achievements this year. On the ground they helped their students to achieve good results at shows around the world, and in the saddle they enjoyed some of their own highlights.
  • Silver for Holger Hetzel at the German National Jumping Championships
  • Team bronze for Laura Hetzel at the European Championships
  • A gold medal for Laura Hetzel at the Rhenish Championships
  • Silver in the “Preis der Besten” for Laura Hetzel
  • Fifth place in the Ladies German Championship for Christine Dorenkamp
  • A very successful Bundeschampionat for Tobias Thoenes who qualified all three of his horses for the final
  • A great result at the World Championship for Young Horses for Tobias Thoenes
  • Gold rosettes and placings in grand prix, championship and world ranking list classes for Holger Hetzel, Tobias Thoenes, Christine Dorenkamp, Roel Holthuizen, Laura Hetzel and the riders they mentor, Ingemar Hammarström, Alena Babushkina etc.

28.09.2017 Making of... 13th Sport Horse Sales

The horses are selected, the videos and pictures fort he catalogue and DVD have been made- the auction time has begun! A few days ago we have made the video clips of the young horses for the 13th edition of our sport horse sales. The sun was shining, the rider were smiling, all other people were speechless and the horses were FANTASTIC! It was just fun to see the horses jumping, the riders Tobias, Roel, Christine, and Imma were smiling all day long because they enjoyed it so much. We had a lot of fun when making the video clips of the auction horses and we can confirm that all youngsters have an unbelievable great character. As usual, we are offering a meticulously selected collection of excellent show jumpers, all of them with extraordinary qualities. All of them have a lot potential, rideability and that something special everyone is looking for. It was brilliant team work during these days and now off to the next step- making the catalogue!

25.09.2017 A successful World Championship

Tobi & Coco Chanel

Tobias has brought well over 200 rosettes back home from shows this year, including top-level wins. But it’s the young horses who have benefitted most from having Tobias as their rider, rewarding him with more than 90 wins and placings in young horse classes. At the DKB Bundeschampionat 2017 he managed to qualify all three of his youngsters for the five year old final, and at the World Championship for Young Jumping Horses he rode impressive clear rounds with Coco Chanel M and California Pie!

01.09.2017 Laura's year 2017- amazing

It’s been another fantastic year packed with achievements, successes and highlights for seventeen year old junior rider Laura Hetzel. She’s won gold, silver and bronze medals, proving that she’s one of the best junior riders in Germany and the world, and a dream come true for any youngster.
At the Preis der Besten competition in Warendorf Laura won silver, followed by gold at the Rhenish Championships and then, to top it all, a bronze medal at the Europeans in Samorin. Her medal winning partner is her successful mare Quanita. Laura’s competition record in 2017 also includes two wins and more than 25 placings in advanced classes, including the grand prix classes at CSI-U25 Lanaken, a 1.45m class at CSI4* Dortmund, being part of the German team in junior nations’ cup classes and a fifth place at the Young Masters League Finale in Salzburg in a 1.55m class. But Laura’s not one to rest on her laurels. She’s committed to continuously improving herself and her partnership with her horses. It’s that dedication that enabled her to bring on the inexperienced mare Everybody’s Darling from 1.10m to 1.40m level within 12 months, win young horses classes up to 1.30m with six year old gelding Hulapalu and complete the grand prix at CSI** Aachen with just one time fault with Polly Pocket. Laura also decided to compete the relatively inexperienced gelding Eclair instead of her successful horse Quanita in the grand prix class at CSI-J Hagen. Laura’s a person who sets herself new competition challenges every year because she’s keen to continue moving up the ranks. She watches the professionals riding at shows and tries to copy what they do on her own horses. She asks questions, reviews her training plans every day and listens to her horses. Laura analyses her competition videos and is absolutely committed to improving. One of her biggest motivations is the joy of achieving one of her objectives. And if it’s a competition objective she’s even happier!

24.07.2017 CHIO Aachen

The World Equestrian Festival in Aachen is the horse world’s Wimbledon. My silver medal at the German Championships got me a coveted invite to the CHIO in Aachen as one of the German riders competing there. The last time I rode in Aachen was 1995 with my legendary horse Gipfelstürmer, so I was delighted to be back at the famous showground 22 years later. The Aachen stadium takes your breath away, when you ride into the arena it’s like nothing else you’ve ever felt before - a mixture of absolute concentration, butterflies and goose bumps. We ride at shows every weekend, but nothing compares to Aachen.
I rode a clear in the five star class with Legioner and was placed twice at the show. Come to win also demonstrated his enormous scope in Aachen, crossing the finishing line in the Stawag-Preis class (1.50m) without a fault. That was an amazing weekend for our entire team!

15.06.2017 Silver at the German Championships

There’s no denying that the German Jumping Championships at Wocklum Castle in Balve is a very special event for the riders, the organisers, the spectators, the region and for Germany. It’s intense, colourful, exciting, captivating and emotional. And to stand on the winners’ rostrum at the German Jumping Championships is an amazing experience for any rider. After an unforgettable weekend in Balve, I was exceptionally proud to take the silver medal back home with me. On the first day of the GJCs, I rode four impressive rounds in the Grand Prix of North Rhine-Westphalia, a two-round 1.55m class, on Legioner and Come to win. Legioner secured sixth place and, like his stable companion Come to win, qualified for the final on Sunday. Balve, Sunday 11 June 2017, 2.45 p.m. The day of the final. The first rider canters into the ring. The going is excellent, the sun is shining, the temperatures are high and the competition is hot. I managed to complete four perfect clears with my two horses after expertly navigating the demanding course of jumps. Legioner was placed third in this grand prix, and Come to win an impressive sixth. Legioner’s overall championship score – just 0.75 of a time fault – meant that the silver medal went to him, and my second horse, Come to win, also ended up in the top ten. My entire training and competition schedule was geared to the German Championships and my horses jumped sensationally. All our hard work paid off at this perfect weekend in Balve. We’re just happy!

15.06.2017 Fifth-best lady show jumper

Christine & Lepus

Christine also had a great show in Balve. The 29 year old rider only just missed out on a medal at the Ladies German Championship with her wonderful horse Lepus. In the first 1.45m points class they came seventh after an excellent round. Then, in the ladies final, Christine and Lepus notched up another two great rounds. Just one fence down put them in eleventh place in the class and a fantastic fifth place overall in the championship. Bronze and maybe even silver were within reach. But the three riders ahead of me were faster than Christine. We’re all really pleased with the result and very proud of Lepus!

17.03.2017 Puissance win

Our proud winner Roel

The sky’s the limit for Roel Holthuizen. At the Keppel Equestrian Festival the flying Dutchman came first in the puissance class after clearing 2.15 metres (7 feet) on eight year old gelding Abnormal (auction horse in 2013, owned by Sergey Maslov).
